Geoff Huegill

Through to the early 2000s, Geoff Huegill was an elite international champion Butterfly swimmer over 50 and 100 metres. By the age of 25, he was a dual Olympic Silver and Bronze Medallist, five-time World Champion, eight-times World Record holder and five-times Commonwealth Gold Medallist.
Along the way he achieved over 10 Australian National titles and established himself as one of the World’s great Butterfly competitors and a tour de force for Australian swimming.
Then, at 26, he called it quits. Instead of waking at 4am for training, he was arriving home from a big night. Geoff turned his life around and got back on track by ditching the diet of alcohol and pizza!
Weighing in at over 138Kg in 2008 at 30 years of age, “Skippy’s” story is that of a true Aussie battler fighting his way back to international, elite level swimming and becoming an inspiring role model in his “comeback” quest.
In October 2008, Geoff was offered a NSWIS scholarship to train under Grant Stoelwinder and alongside his Super Squad that included the likes of Eamon Sullivan. By August 2009 he was back on the winner’s podium with a successful swim at the Australian Short Course Championships.
Eight years after he won his last Commonwealth title, Geoff Huegill did it all for himself and his country in Delhi 2010. It also came six years after any male Australian swimmer last won an individual Olympic or Commonwealth Games gold medal.
Today, Geoff is an athlete-entrepreneur and co-director of three companies, and he is positioning himself within the ranks of the business and corporate world, humanitarian ambassadorships, civic-minded projects, and undertaking socially responsible community outreach initiatives.
